14 DAY TRIAL // Wikipedia announced that it redesigned its application for Android and added a new home screen which now includes the explore feed. Additional features and improvements were also added to the application.
The Wikipedia app was redesigned in order to help users find information that they need and also provide interesting content. The app now comes with recommended Wikipedia entries based on the content that the user already accessed.
Wikipedia has redesigned the home screen of the app so that users can explore a feed of recommended pictures and interesting articles based on the ones that they've already read on Wikipedia.
Wikipedia added multiple features to the news feed
The feed includes current international news stories and links to the Wikipedia articles that are relevant to each story. In addition, it comes with trending articles, including the top five most read articles of the day. The app now comes with a featured image that is selected daily by the Wikipedia editor community. A featured article is also picked daily by editors and recommended articles are provided based on the content that the user has explored previously.
The Wikipedia app also comes with an option for users to continue articles that they've started reading but didn't get the chance to finish. It also comes with a card that takes the user to the Main Wikipedia Page in their preferred language. Another new feature allows users to find Wikipedia articles randomly. In addition, the search bar at the top of the feed is more prominent and it now has integrated voice search.
Users who scroll down the feed would find featured content from previous days, including trending articles and featured pictures. In addition, users can share articles easily or save them to their personal reading list that can be accessed even when they're offline.
The application is available in the Google Play store. Wikipedia for iOS was also updated recently with similar features.
