The Half an Onion in a Bag talks about gaining more and more followers in the hopes of one day surpassing Trump

It is only a few days old, but this Twitter account aims to get more followers than the brand new American President, Donald Trump. The catch is that the account is that of a half onion in a Ziploc bag.

Gaining fame on Twitter can be quite difficult. You need to tweet at the right time, get endorsed by celebrities, tweet about trending topics, update regularly and often, and so on and so forth. It also takes a lot of time.

The @HalfOnionInABag account was created on January 20, the same day that Trump became president and it wants to eventually get more followers than the Donald. That is quite a task since Trump’s Twitter account has 21.8 million followers. He also has 14.3 million followers on the official @POTUS account where he retweets his own private account for obvious reasons.

Asked what he was thinking when creating this account, the person behind @HalfOnionInABag explains that, while the feelings of “disgust” had been there a long time, it suddenly felt more real on the day of the inauguration. “I wanted to make a statement of some sort then and there and decided, why not do it on Trump's favorite platform?” the Twitter user told Softpedia.

The thing with Trump and his Twitter account is that a good number of his followers are simply there for fun, not because they support him. After all, Trump has been known for tweeting things he probably shouldn’t have, freely expressing his feelings on topics he should probably show more diplomacy about and engaging in feuds with the SNL team over how they represent him on the show.

"Yuge" success

In the few days since @HalfOnionInABag has been active, it managed to gather over 238,000 followers, which is quite a feat. It has tweeted 34 times and hopes that through these funny remarks the followers will keep on coming.

The account’s declared purpose is to annoy Donald Trump by getting more followers than him and even promises not to tweet too much. “I will not clog your feeds. I’m just here to get more followers than @realDonaldTrump & then hopefully be used on a hamburger on in an omelet,” reads one of the account’s first messages.

“I've worked in the digital space for a long time now and thought briefly about what makes the Internet tick, and a combination of topical content, humor and complete randomness seemed like a good call. So, I looked around my home to try to find the most random item I could put head to head with Trump. When I opened my fridge and saw that pathetic half onion in a bag (that I since have been  told multiple times was cut wrong, making it even more pathetic), I  knew I had a winner,” he admits

The hope is that Trump is not going to be so annoyed with the satirical account that he sets up a press conference to deal with it.
