Earlier this year, Panos Panay, the man in charge with everything Surface at the Redmond-based software giant, was spotted wearing what seemed to be a white Microsoft Band, and many people thought this was either the third generation or a special edition model.
While Panos never talked about this white Microsoft Band, people with knowledge of the matter suggested it was only a model specifically built for company employees, so it was never launched and sold publicly.
A video posted by Nokibar today provides us with a closer look at this super-exquisite Microsoft Band, which seems to feature a combination of white and gold for a very unique look.
Basically, the only things that are different here are the actual band, which is white, and the case color, which is now gold, leading to a mix that makes us wonder why exactly the company hasn’t released this version for everyone.
No other Microsoft Band coming
According to the latest rumors, Microsoft not only that doesn’t have any plans to launch a white and gold Band but it wants to discontinue the Band series completely, with the software giant now trying to pull existing units from stores.
It appears that Microsoft wanted to install Windows 10 IoT on the Microsoft Band for its third generation, but this experiment failed and the company decided to abandon the device completely. It was believed that the third-generation Microsoft Band was supposed to be a much more advanced device featuring not only waterproofing, but also interchangeable bands, becoming more of a smartwatch and less of an activity tracker.
There’s no sign just yet of another activity tracker or smartwatch coming from Microsoft, but the company can always return to this business given the growing demand for wearables. At this point, the wearables market is led by Apple and Fitbit, and although Microsoft was never close to becoming number one, its devices have quite a lot fans across the world.
