14 DAY TRIAL // As of today, January 1, 2018, you can no longer use the popular WhatsApp Messenger on BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 devices, nor Windows Phone 8.0 or older devices.
Back in February 2016, WhatsApp explained that it will focus more on the iOS and Android platforms, instead of the older mobile operating systems offered by BlackBerry and Nokia back when WhatsApp launched, to be able to expand the app's features in the future.
At the end of 2016, stopped working on Nokia Symbian S60, iPhone 3GS and other iPhone devices running Apple's iOS 6 operating system, Windows Phone 7 devices, as well as any other device running Google's Linux-powered Android 2.1 and Android 2.2 operating systems.
"As we look ahead to our next seven years, we want to focus our efforts on the mobile platforms the vast majority of people use," said WhatsApp. "While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they don't offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the future."
BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, and Windows Phone 8.0 support drops today
As a reminder, we'd like to inform those running devices powered by the BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, and Windows Phone 8.0 mobile operating systems that WhatsApp Messenger will stop working as of today, January 1, 2018. In other words, you won't be able to use WhatsApp's messaging services on any of these devices anymore.
If you still own a mobile device that runs BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10 or Windows Phone 8.0, and you need to use WhatsApp Messenger, it's time to look for a newer, more modern smartphone running either iOS or Android. After December 31, 2018, WhatsApp will also drop support for Nokia S40 devices, and Android 2.3.7 and older will no longer be supported after February 1, 2020.
