WhatsApp is clearly the number one mobile messaging app right now, so offering support for most mobile platforms out there is undoubtedly very important for both the company and its users.

And because Windows 10 Mobile is just around the corner, WhatsApp is working on a version of its app that would be specifically aimed at this platform, as the team behind the project is trying to make sure that no compatibility issues would be experienced, but also that the new release would take advantage of the improvements included in Microsoft's overhauled mobile platform.

There's no official confirmation about such a version, but WMPU writes that the WhatsApp team revealed in a support message that a Windows 10 Mobile-compatible app version would be released soon. And yet, there is no information on timing or any other changes that might be part of this build.

Windows Phone 10”

Interestingly, the WhatsApp support team refers to Windows 10 Mobile as “Windows Phone 10,” pointing out that for the moment, the new mobile operating system is not supported because of its preview tag.

“We appreciate your feedback about WhatsApp compatibility with Windows Phone 10 and apologize for the inconvenience.Windows Phone 10 is not an official OS version and currently we are not supporting WhatsApp on beta OS versions,” the message reads.

“Our developers are working hard on providing you with a compatible version. Thank you for your patience and support for WhatsApp.”

In the meantime, the Windows Phone version of WhatsApp appears to be working fine on Windows 10 Mobile, but there's no doubt that a new build that would be specifically designed for this version would come in very handy for those who upgrade.

Windows 10 Mobile is projected to launch in late September or early October, so the new WhatsApp version could see daylight soon after that.
