The ability to send files has been added too

It's been quite a long time since WhatsApp Messenger introduced the voice calling feature on Android, iOS and BlackBerry devices, but Windows Phone platform has been skipped from the initial rollout.

Although this particular feature has been released for the beta version of WhatsApp several weeks ago, it wasn't available for the general public until today.

With Voice Calling feature, as mentioned by developers, WhatsApp users will be able to call their friends and family using the application for free, even when they are on the go in another country.

As many of you probably know by now, WhatsApp Messenger uses the phone's Internet connection instead of the cellular plan's voice minutes, which is why data charges may apply.

However, as long as your phone is connected to a Wi-Fi network, you should be able to use Voice Calling features on WhatsApp for free without fear of any additional fees.

The new features are not compatible with all Windows Phone devices

It's also worth mentioning that the Voice Calling feature only works on devices powered by Windows Phone 8 and up, so smartphones running previous versions of the OS (if there are any) won't work with the new function.

Aside from bringing Voice Calling to Windows Phone users, developers also announced that the latest update adds the ability to send audio files through WhatsApp Messenger.

Still, just like the Voice Calling feature, this ability won't work with all Windows Phone devices. According to developers, only smartphones running Windows Phone 8.1 and up are compatible with the ability to send audio files.

You can now download WhatsApp Messenger for Windows Phone for free via Windows Phone Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Windows Phone 7.5 and up.

Keep in mind though that some features included in the application might not work on older version of Windows Phone.
