Beta version currently testing the new emoticon pack

WhatsApp keeps improving on Windows Phone and soon the application will get an update that’s very likely to generate mixed reactions from those who are still using Microsoft’s operating system.

The latest beta version of WhatsApp, namely 2.16.204, comes with support for the new iOS 10 emoticons that are available for iPhone users who upgrade to the latest version of the operating system that was released to devices earlier this week.

As you probably know already, Windows 10 Mobile devices include a brand new emoticon pack that looks absolutely stunning and, to be honest, we’d actually prefer WhatsApp to actually use these emoticons. Instead, the company is looking to use the same icon pack on all platforms, and it appears that the version available in iOS 10 is their choice.

WhatsApp still betting big on Windows Phone client

On the other hand, it’s good to see that WhatsApp remains committed to Windows Phone no matter the criticism and the dropping market share, with the company releasing new versions, both beta and stable, every once in a while with new features and improvements.

For the moment, the new emoticon pack is only available in the beta, so only users who are part of the program can give it a try. The public version could get the same update in the coming weeks, and we’ll let you know when this happens.

WhatsApp remains one of the most popular instant messaging apps on mobile devices out there and, fortunately, Windows Phone users aren’t left behind as it happened so many times in the past.

Companies such as Amazon and PayPal have decided to leave Windows Phone and concentrate on Android and iOS (although Amazon eventually returned with a web wrapper-like app that makes no sense), but hopefully, more developers would follow WhatsApp’s example and continue investing in Windows Phone despite its more or less uncertain future.
