WhatsApp for Windows Phone has just received an update that pushes version number to 2.12.180 and that brings a number of small improvements that certainly come in handy to those owning a Lumia or a different device powered by Microsoft’s mobile operating system.

Even though Windows 10 Mobile is just around the corner, the update shows up only on Windows Phone, so just go to the store to download the new version right away. This time, there are no official release notes, and the change log that’s published in the store was actually rolled out for the previous version.

Only small fixes and optimizations

According to this official change log, the previous WhatsApp for Windows Phone client brings improved search that lets you instantly find messages, chats, and contacts, but according to the parent company, this particular feature could take a while until it shows up after the update.

Search already existed, but the new version is supposed to make it a little bit more effective, so if you’re the kind of user that has tons of chats and hundreds of contacts, there’s no doubt such a feature really comes in handy.

And last but not least, this new WhatsApp update for Windows Phone also brings support for in-app notifications sounds, which, although they seem to be a really neat addition, might become rather annoying when chatting with the same person for more than a few minutes.

The same feature already exists on other platforms, but there are options to disable it and keep the conversation completely silent.

For the moment, it’s safe to assume that this version of WhatsApp is mostly focused on bug fixing and performance improvements, but you’re still highly recommended to download and install it right away. As usual, if you notice something major in this version, let us and the other readers know about it using the comment box after the jump.
