WhatsApp for Windows Phone has just received a major update that brings plenty of improvements, including new features and customization options for devices running Microsoft's mobile operating system.

Version 2.12.112.0, which is now available from the Windows Phone store, finally allows users to mark chats as read or unread, an option that was already available on rival platforms since a few updates ago.

At the same time, this update brings several new emoji and starting with this version, you can also tap on some emoticons and choose a different skin color. Again, this feature was already offered to users on rival platforms, including iOS.

The new WhatsApp version now allows Windows Phone users to select multiple messages in chat and forward or delete them quickly, while when you receive a contact card, you can quickly message the received contact easily from WhatsApp.

Calls ringtones and more options

WhatsApp for Windows Phone now enables users to choose a ringtone for WhatsApp Calls, so if you use this feature to talk to your contacts, this is quite a great addition to the feature lineup.

And last but not least, you can now enable or disable sound and vibrate for in-app notifications, which makes WhatsApp less annoying when chatting with someone and you keep the app in focus all the time.

There's no mention of any battery improvements in this version of WhatsApp, and it's a well-known fact that some older releases basically killed the battery of some devices running Windows Phone. The latest versions indeed brought some improvements in this regard, but there's still room for better features, so the more updates in this regard, the better.

In the meantime, everyone's recommended to update through the store to get all these improvements, but if you can't see the new version, you can download WhatsApp for Windows Phone here.
