The latest WhatsApp version that landed a few hours ago in the App Store for iPhone and iPad devices brings two cool new features that most of drooled over for some time now.

WhatsApp is undoubtedly the world's most popular messaging app available for iPhone and other smartphones, but it became more than that in the past few years. WhatsApp can also be used as a Phone app to make phone calls over Wi-Fi or cellular connections, as well as to send photos, videos, and voice messages to your contacts.

The latest release, WhatsApp 2.17.81, landed today in the App Store for Apple's iOS mobile operating system powering supported iPhone devices, and it brings the ability to record longer voice messages. All you have to do to record long voice messages on WhatsApp is just to swipe up and lock recording.

"Want to easily record long Voice Messages? When recording a Voice Message, just swipe up to lock recording so you can continue to record without keeping your finger down," said WhatsApp in the App Store release notes, where it also describes the second feature it introduced in this update, the ability to play YouTube videos in the app.

Play YouTube videos in the app, with picture-in-picture support

If until now you had to click on a YouTube video to watch it on the YouTube for iOS app on your iPhone, with the WhatsApp 2.17.81 update, you can play YouTube videos your friends sent you directly in the app. Best of all, there's also picture-in-picture support so you can keep texting and watching at the same time.

If you're using WhatsApp on your iPhone, go ahead and update it from the App Store to enjoy longer voice messages and YouTube videos with PiP. WhatsApp Messenger is free, and it's compatible with all iPhone devices running the iOS 7.0 or later mobile operating system from Apple.
