WhatsApp was, is, and will continue to be one of the top mobile messengers out there, and with a new version of Microsoft’s smartphone platform just around the corner, the developing team appears to be hard at work to make sure their app has full support.

So it shouldn’t come as a big surprise that a new update for the beta version finally brings full support for Windows 10 Mobile, which means that end users should get this functionality as soon as the next smartphone operating system developed by Microsoft reaches the market.

WhatsApp Beta was pushed to version 2.12.128 in the Windows Phone Store, and in addition to support for Windows 10 Mobile, it also brings a new “Select messages” option added in the top bar, new sounds for messages received when the app is running, as well as new settings to quickly change status.

At the same time, Aggiornamenti Lumia reports (via WMPU) that developers have also fixed an issue that broke down emoticons, so after installing the update, the app should display the correct emoticons in both the preview and the conversation windows.

Windows 10 Mobile to launch next month

Windows 10 Mobile is projected to make its public debut next month, together with new high-end devices that would serve as pioneers of the operating system and allow users to get the best from the new platform.

But what’s more important is that software developers have already started tweaking their apps to support the upcoming mobile OS, and this is really good for Microsoft, given the low developer interest in Windows Phone. It’s not a secret that several popular apps were not available on Windows Phone, but Windows 10 Mobile seems to be already generating more excitement among developers.

This new version of WhatsApp is only available for private testers, but everyone should be getting it very soon as an update in the store.
