Earlier this week, Apple sent invitations to various media outlets in the United States for an upcoming event that the Cupertino-based company plans to hold on March 27, 2018, in Chicago, Illinois.

The event, entitled "Let's Take a Field Trip," will be held at Lane Tech College Prep High School in Chicago, Illinois, United States, and promises to reveal creative new ideas that would help teachers and students to be more productive and efficient during class time, as well as at home.

Judging by similar events that Apple held in spring in the past years, as well as by the rumors and leaks that circulated on the Web in the past several months, we believe that the company wants to announce cheaper iPad and MacBook Air models suitable for classroom use.

Here's what Apple might announce on March 27

One of the new products that Apple could announce during its March 27 "Let's Take a Field Trip" event is a new iPad, a cheaper model with a 9.7-inch display, and probably Face ID authentication, as there were a couple of devices spotted as approved by EEC (Eurasian Economic Commission) last month.

Some findings in the upcoming iOS 11.3 software update for supported iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices also reveal the fact that new iPad models are coming, so expect them to be revealed on March 27. Talking about iOS 11.3, we expect Apple to present and announce the official release as well.

iOS 11.3 promises numerous enhancements, including new AR (Augmented Reality) experiences, four new Animoji in Messages for iPhone X owners, Business Chat for direct communication with select businesses from Messages, a new Health Records feature in the Health App, and a new Battery Health feature.

Among other things that Apple might announce this spring, there's a new, cheaper MacBook Air model that sports Retina display, the promised AirPower charging mat, new AirPods, and second-generation Apple Pencil to go with the new iPad(s), and probably brand-new coding experiences for students.

If you're interested in seeing what Apple has in store for teachers and students this spring, don't forget to tune in at 10:00 a.m. Chicago time on March 27, 2018, for a live blog where we'll try to cover all the highlights of the event, which we hope to be live streamed on Apple's website.
