Microsoft ships update for the Anniversary Update as well

One of the August 8 cumulative updates released by Microsoft for Windows 10 systems is specifically aimed at the Anniversary Update, also known as version 1607 and released in the summer of 2016.

Windows 10 cumulative update KB4034658 comes with only 3 lines of changes in the release notes, and the most visible difference is that it bumps OS version number to 14393.1593.

As for the improvements, Microsoft says that it fixes an issue causing some apps to be sometimes displayed with a border when the device is being used in tablet mode, as well as a bug caused by the previous cumulative updates and blocking specifics apps from launching when the device resumed from Connected Standby mode.

At the same time, this update includes the obligatory security fixes pack, especially because KB4034658 lands on Patch Tuesday, so you’ll find improvements for the Windows Search Component, kernel-mode drivers, Windows PDF Library, Windows Server, Internet Explorer, and others.

No known issues

There are no known issues listed at this point, but as with all the other cumulative updates, we’ll be keeping an eye on reports and let you know should any problem be discovered.

The number of systems running the Windows 10 Anniversary Update is dropping, especially because Microsoft has already shipped the Creators Update earlier this year in April. The company has recently announced that the Creators Update rollout was complete, and all supported devices could get it from Windows Update, so the number of adopters is expected to improve substantially in the coming months.

Users installing Windows 10 cumulative update KB4034658 should keep in mind that a reboot is required and in some cases, it could take longer until they are brought back to the desktop.

The number of failed installs has been reduced substantially after the release of the Creators Update, so hopefully everything would go smoothly with this new cumulative update as well.
