14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft rolled out a new Windows 10 cumulative update for 10586 devices enrolled in the Release Preview ring, and now the company has posted information about the contents of the patch.
Before anything, it’s worth mentioning that KB3163014 is only aimed at insider PCs, so Windows 10 computers running the stable 10586 build aren’t going to see it in Windows Update.
According to the official changelog, this new update, which bumps version number to 10586.338, comes with improved reliability in numerous apps, including here Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Cortana, File Explorer (which Microsoft still calls “Windows Explorer”), and the Maps app.
Additionally, it fixes several important issues on both PCs and Mobile, including one causing balloon tip notification to always appear on the upper left side of the screen. Windows 10 testers who were using VPN will find this new cumulative update quite helpful, as it also comes with a patch for an issue causing connections to work incorrectly when switching between different network interfaces.
Two fixes for Windows 10 Mobile
There are two important fixes for mobile users, one of which addressed a bug leading to the complete loss of contacts, messages, and appointments after upgrading from Windows Phone 8.1 to Windows 10 on a number of devices. It’s not hard to imagine how frustrating such a bug can be, so it’s clearly a good thing that Microsoft managed to develop a patch in this regard.
Additionally, Windows 10 Mobile users are getting a small fix aimed at a bug that stopped phones from ringing when an SMS was received while the device was ringing from an incoming call.
As you can see, this cumulative update is mostly about bug fixing and improving performance, so although it bumps the version number, it doesn’t bring any new features. Users who are still running the stable version of Windows 10 on their PCs and mobile should get the new cumulative update in the coming weeks, most likely on Patch Tuesday.
