The company says the Windows Insider program will continue

Information posted on Microsoft's Window 10 Mobile Preview page indicated that early builds of the operating system would expire on October 1, but according to Gabe Aul, who is the chief of the Windows Insider program, that's not the case.

In fact, some builds will indeed expire on October 1, but the company was actually referring to old versions of the mobile operating system, as it clearly wants to get testers on the very latest releases, most likely ahead of the launch of the final tidbits.

And that does make sense. Microsoft is expected to release Windows 10 Mobile in October, and by forcing insiders to upgrade to the latest build, Redmond makes sure that it collects the feedback it needs in order to fix all the common issues before the launch of the OS to all users.

“That's just date when the cert currently used to sign builds expires. The program will continue. New builds will use new cert,” Aul has explained in a tweet.

The Windows Insider program for mobile will continue after launch

Microsoft thus wants to continue the Windows Insider program, just as it did with the PC version of the operating system, so the next updates for Windows 10 Mobile will continue to be developed with help from users across the world.

“It won't stop, Insider program will keep going. A key part of our Windows as a service way of working,” Aul has added.

As a conclusion, if you're running an older build of Windows 10 Mobile on your device, you’d better upgrade as soon as possible because, starting September 15, you should start receive notifications to do that.

On October 1, older builds of the operating system will expire, and you will have no other option than to upgrade anyway, so it's a much better idea to upgrade right now and be prepared when the big moment comes.
