Why not be practical AND weird instead of just practical

You can't have crazy looking objects today as much as there were in the past. This sort of obsession of cramming different features into one object that was basically meant for one single job faded in time since a certain industrial design purity became prevalent in the mid-'90s.

However, crazy designs weren't completely abandoned by major Asian manufacturers like Sony. Starting with the Android P clamshell tablet, and recently bringing the SRS-LRS100 remote control that pairs the TV remote feature with a wireless speaker that also receives a 2.4GHz signal from dongle attached to your TV or stereo. The whole speaker idea is to bring the TV sound "at hand," being basically always next to you whether you are in the same room with your TV or in your bedroom, kitchen, and why not, bathroom.

Adding to this feature, it seems, comes the whole remote thing, so you can also change the channel via the same feature in case you're tired of hearing the same things wherever you go around the house. Additional features include a headphone jack and a large volume knob, an auto power-off feature, drip resistance, a minimal sound delay and 16-hours of battery.

Carry the sound of your favorite TV show wherever you are

Apparently, the main selling point of this device is to have clear sound every time you do something noisy and can't hear the TV anymore. Or if you really need to hear the TV without being in the same room, you can plug some headphone and just remotely listen to your TV just like you'd do with a radio.

Unfortunately, with just 16 hours of battery life, you won't be able to stroll around your house for too long while carrying around some Game of Thrones massacre sounds. Having the lifespan of an average smartphone, the remote control could become annoying pretty fast when compared to the average lifespan of months on end compared to an average remote control.

Sony didn't say when and if it would sell this device worldwide since it's limited only to Japan for 19,880 yen ($170).
