The Windows 10 Mobile upgrade saga continues, even though Microsoft has made it clear that only specific Windows Phone models would get the new operating system.

HTC M8 for Windows is one interesting particular case because the phone has what it takes to run Windows 10 Mobile flawlessly, but wasn’t included in the list of supported models.

Soon after Microsoft started the rollout and made it clear that the M8 wouldn’t get Windows 10 Mobile, a tweet posted by HTC’s account said that the device would actually be upgradeable to the new operating system and it’s just a matter of time until the new bits are received.

Gabriel Aul, head of Microsoft’s Windows Insider program, made it clear that the M8 wasn’t supported, but despite this, HTC argued against the software giant and said that no, their Windows Phone model would receive Windows 10 Mobile.

Here we go again

And now, everything’s changing once again. HTC says that in fact, the M8 for Windows won’t be upgradeable to Windows 10 Mobile because it’s not compatible.

“Upon checking, our M8 for Windows will not be able to receive Win 10 update due to compatibility requirements,” the official @HTCHelp account tweeted. “We don't have any details to share yet. Keep an eye on our livestream for news & updates.”

Microsoft can hardly be blamed for anything in this case, as the company made it clear from the very beginning that the M8 for Windows won’t be getting Windows 10 Mobile. It was HTC the one adding fuel to the fire, giving users hopes and in the end leading to more criticism aimed at everyone involved.

Certainly, everyone hopes to see a change of mind in this case, as the HTC M8 for Windows seems perfectly capable of running Windows 10 Mobile. At least on paper, because it’s very clear that Microsoft had strong reasons not to include it in the Windows 10 Mobile rollout.
