Carlos Garcia Campos had the pleasure of announcing the immediate availability for download and testing of a new snapshot towards the upcoming WebKitGTK+ 2.10 WebKit rendering engine for the GNOME desktop environment.

According to the changelog, which we've attached at the end of this article for reference, WebKitGTK+ 2.9.3 brings various new features and fixes various issues that have been reported by users since the previous development version of the application, WebKitGTK+ 2.9.2.

Therefore, we can report that WebKitGTK+ is now capable of inhibiting the screensaver while playing full-screen videos, brings an updated web inspector icon that makes it easier for Rendering Frames to distinguish between painting and layout, improves the performance of keyboard events handling, and makes sure that a URI's fragment identifier part is no longer removed for custom URI scheme requests.

Moreover, the compatibility with the next-generation Wayland display server has been improved, the element tag names are now exposed as object attributes to accessibility, an issue with the DOCUMENT_VIEWER cache model has been repaired to make sure that memory cache is correctly disabled, and a regression with the WebKitWebView::context-menu signal was fixed.

WebKitGTK+ 2.9.3 is available for testing today

Those of you who want to test WebKitGTK+ 2.9.3 can download the source code right now from Softpedia or directly from the project's website and start compiling it. However, they should know that it is a pre-release software that contains some unresolved issues, which means that it's not suitable for production use.

Please note that the application requires the GTK+ 3.6.0 or later, Glib 2.36 or higher, libsoup 2.42.0 or later, Cairo 1.10.2 or higher, libxml 2.8.0 or higher, libxslt 1.1.7 or later, HarfBuzz 0.9.2 or higher, icu, FontConfig 2.8.0 or higher, FreeType2 2.4.2 or later, libsecret, SQLite, and enchant packages.

However, depending on your configuration options, the WebKitGTK+ 2.9.3 software might also require you to install the GTK+ 2.24.10 or later, GObject introspection, GStreamer 1.0.3 or higher, GeoClue 2.1.5 or later, gudev, and cairo-gl 1.10.2 or higher packages.
