AT&T and Verizon Wireless subscribers that own a Palm Pre Plus will be happy to find that webOS 1.4.5 is finally rolled-out by the above mentioned carriers onto their smartphones. Much later than it was expected, the new update promises to fix some bugs and includes a few enhancements

Unlike the last webOS 1.4.1.1 update released at the end of April, the new update requires users to update certain applications to their latest version to properly support the launch of the webOS Plug-in Development Kit (PDK).

As this release includes minor fixes and enhancements to support the public release of the webOS PDK, you will have to check the App Catalog for updates in case one of the games you have is not saving your game correctly.

Also, another Web-related fix solves a rare problem that prevented the podcasts to download correctly. Thus, after the new update is installed, if a user enters text in a field on certain websites, the screen focus now remains on the text being entered.

webOS 1.4.5 also addresses several security issues with the Palm webOS software, which were identified by users, as well as some developers.

Unfortunately, it seems that the current Pre problem with the GPS functionality hasn't been fixed yet, and neither the Verizon keyboard problem.

The update also improves Mobile Hotspot with Windows Visa 64-bit, and slightly the battery life.

Homebrewers are advised to remove any patches and themes before doing the update, otherwise they will be deleted during the process.

Even though Palm Pre users were expecting this update for a long time, especially that Palm Pixi got it about two weeks ago, it seems that the community is already anxious to receive the webOS 2.0 update, as the 1.4.5 doesn't fixes the most important problems the Palm Pre has at the moment.
