wattOS developer Ronald Ropp is pleased to announce on the first day of September 2016 the release and immediate availability for download of the LXDE Edition of his Ubuntu-based wattOS 10 computer operating system.

wattOS 10 LXDE Edition is the newest version of wattOS, and also the most advanced one, based on the recently released Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system and shipping with some of the latest GNU/Linux technologies and open-source software projects for continued stability and long-term support.

Powered by Ubuntu's Linux 4.4.0-36 kernel, wattOS 10 LXDE Edition comes with the Mozilla Firefox 48.0 web browser, PCManFM 1.2.4 file manager, Transmission 2.84 BitTorrent client, gThumb 3.4.3 image viewer, Lollypop 0.9.112 music player, Filezilla 3.15.0.2 file transfer client, Evince 3.18.2 document viewer, and Gufw 16.04.1 firewall.

wattOS now offers support for more wireless devices and hardware

But the latest open-source programs are not all that's new in wattOS 10, which also provides better support for wireless devices and other hardware components, thanks to the implementation of legacy Broadcom support and DKMS (Dynamic Kernel Module Support). Best of all, wattOS 10 LXDE is designed for very old PCs.

"LXDE versions wattOS should be able to run on any system that has a processor released in the last 10 years (some even further back) with 192-256MB of RAM to install but less than 128MB after install is complete. We enjoy bringing old computers back to life, and wattOS is a great candidate to do that," reads the announcement.

Additionally, wattOS 10 includes power management utilities like PowerTOP, which can be used to further optimize the operating system for your hardware, as well as to tweak various settings, especially on laptops. You can download wattOS 10 LXDE Edition right now via our website for both 64- and 32-bit computers.
