GNOME 3.24 will come with a redesigned Control Center

As we reported last year, the upcoming GNOME 3.24 desktop environment will come with a revamped GNOME Control Center component, and GNOME developer Felipe Borges now gives us a sneak peek into the new Users panel.

GNOME Control Center's Users panel got a new design recently, which represents the developers' first attempt to move away from the old two-column panel and implement a single page concept, as you can see in the video attached below.

"These changes make the panel way clearer specially with the new shell," said Felipe Borge in a recent blog post. "In terms of user interface/experience, the Carousel is the main star of the new Users panel. It presents the system users, alphabetically sorted, three at the time."

The Carousel you see on the top area of the Users panel will allow you to easily browse all users and an arrow will indicate the selected user so you know for whom you need to modify settings like name, automatic login, language, account type, or password.

GNOME devs plan to switch to the new Shell in the next cycle

The Users panel design is the fourth panel to get the new single-page design after the Keyboard, Mouse, and Printers panels. These will be part of a new Settings experience of the upcoming GNOME 3.24 desktop environment.

Felipe Borges also revealed the GNOME's plan to switch to the new Shell in the forthcoming cycle. We'll let you now enjoy the 25-second-long video to see how the Users panel will look when you upgrade your Linux PC to GNOME 3.24 this spring.

GNOME 3.24 will launch on March 22, but a first Beta version will be available for public testing this week, which could include the new design of GNOME Control Center and Users panel, in case you want to taste it yourself.
