It still suffers some scratches under heavy pressure

Lumia 950 XL is Microsoft’s flagship device that runs Windows 10 Mobile, so it’s supposed to compete against the best from Android and iOS, including the Samsung Galaxy Note5 and the iPhone 6s Plus.

As a result, Microsoft also used the best it had to make the Lumia 950 XL excel in all regards, but it’s still a challenge to resist extreme tests such as bending, burning, or scratching with a knife.

YouTuber JerryRigEverything is one of the cold-blooded people who wanted to find out this on their own, so he recently performed a series of really extreme tests on the Lumia 950 XL, including the ones mentioned above.

The extreme tests

Surprisingly, the Lumia 950 XL survived the bending tests with flying colors, and while it did escape unscratched under moderate pressure with a typical screwdriver (Gorilla Glass 4, however, couldn’t withstand scratches when the screwdriver was pressed harder), it’s really interesting that it suffered absolutely no damage from the burning flame test.

In the bending test, the phone didn’t disintegrate, and it’s very clear that it’s quite a flexible piece of hardware, but if you plan to bend it that much, it might be impossible to use it again. The screen keeps working, but it doesn’t revert to the original flat shape.

What’s more interesting, however, is the tearing apart test, where JerryRigEverything had a look at the liquid cooling system. Introduced with much fanfare by Panos Panay at the Microsoft hardware event on October 6, this cooling system doesn’t actually have any liquid inside, and as the YouTuber explains, it’s just a traditional heat pipe-based system that you can find in most other phones.

Hopefully, you’ll never get to test your Lumia 950 XL in these extreme conditions, but if you do, make sure you record a video to let us know how it survived.
