The man wasn't in the least afraid of the predator

You'd think that, when coming face to face with a great white shark, anybody in their right mind would back away to give the ocean predator some personal space.

When he happened to encounter a great white late last week, however, California surfer Michael Davids did no such thing. He actually followed it around for a while and filmed it.

Once back on land, he shared the video with his Facebook friends. “Today I was introduced to a new friend at the beach,” the surfer commented on the encounter.

It was while surfing in the waters of Manhattan Beach on Sunday that Michael Davids crossed paths with the shark. The surfer's video, available below, shows the predator swimming just under his board.

Michael Davids estimates that the shark measured somewhere around 7 feet (over 2 meters) in length. Luckily, it wasn't hungry and seemed quite bored with the surfer's presence.

The California man estimates the encounter happened some 40 to 50 yards (around 35 to 45 meters) from shore. He has no idea where the shark might have gone after escaping his camera.

“Glad he was just minding his own business and didn't feel too hungry!!” a viewer commented on the footage. “Dude, this is awesome!!!” another of Michael's friends added.
