Life can prove a bit of a drag sometimes, especially for those who have to work long hours and don't get enough sleep. Now, you might think coffee is the one and only cure for fatigue, but that's not really the case.

There are plenty of tricks to perk up your mood and stay awake without having to overdose on caffeine and they're not just old wives' tales. Au contraire, they've been tested by science and proven to work.

For starters, research has shown that taking some time to watch a couple of cat videos - maybe more, if you're really tired - can prove an excellent substitute for coffee. It all comes down to how the human brain works.

You see, watching cat videos floods your brain with oxytocin, which in turn fosters feelings of trust, improves mood and boosts attention to details. No need to worry if you're not a cat person, puppies work just as well.

In the absence of cat videos, you can try drinking some water to combat dehydration, dancing around to your favorite tune or maybe just listening to music. Needless to say, the cooler the jam, the better this trick will work.

Then, there's the simplest trick of them all: either turn on some seriously bright lights to scare the sleepiness away or, better yet, go for a walk in the sun. This should help energize you in no time.
