Anniversary iPhone proves slippery during Cook interview

The iPhone X is projected to become available on November 3 for all immortals, but in the meantime, pretty much every Apple employee seems to have one.

The Internet has been flooded lately with photos showing what were believed to be Apple engineers using the iPhone X in public, weeks before we can get our hands on one. Obviously, if so many employees already have an iPhone X, it’s not surprising that CEO Tim Cook himself also has one.

The Apple boss paid a visit to the Oxford University earlier this week to open the Oxford Foundry, a new facility whose purpose will be to improve the entrepreneurial skills of the students. Tim Cook was the guest star, but during a live interview, the whole attention inadvertently switched to the anniversary iPhone.

The glass body of the iPhone X proved to be quite slippery, as the device managed to swiftly fall out of Tim Cook’s pocket without him noticing until the very last moment. Fortunately for Cook, Apple, and company fanboys, the iPhone X didn’t hit the ground, but fell on the couch, thus avoiding a live drop test that could have ruined the future of the model in case it cracked.

Glass, not metal

On the good side, Tim Cook casually checked the iPhone and put it face-down on the couch, as he probably switched it to silent to avoid any other accidents.

For what it’s worth, Apple made the transition from metal to glass with the release of the iPhone 8 and the iPhone X, but while this enables other features, like wireless charging, it could very well make the devices more prone to physical damages in case of drops.

Obviously, expect an iPhone X screen replacement to be super-expensive, though this is something that’s valid in the case of the majority of high-end smartphones, including Samsung’s Galaxy S8, where having a cracked display replaced costs more than $250.
