True, there are some folks who stay up all night working or partying and who sleep during the day, but most people go to bed not long after sunset and then wake up bright and early in the morning.

If you count yourself among these guys and gals with a well-established daily schedule, check out the animated video below to learn how your body responds to and influences your routine.

The single most important thing you should know is that there is a perfectly reasonable explanation for why you feel groggy for a few minutes and sometimes even a couple of hours: sleep inertia.

Plainly put, your body doesn't like abrupt awakenings - then again, who does? - and needs a while coming to terms with the fact that it's time to perk up and get ready for a brand new day.

One other piece of information that might be of interest to you is that, although there are many who prefer working out in the morning, the fact of the matter is that the best time of the day to hit the gym or go for a run is in the afternoon.

This is because it is in the afternoon that the heart works more efficiently and the airways are more open. Hence, this is the perfect time to exercise, especially if you're looking to gain muscle mass and get stronger.

So, yes, your body keeps pretty busy day after day, and you might want to rethink your routine to work with it rather than against it.
