The device is now out of stock at Microsoft's online store

Microsoft's Surface Book isn't here yet, but it turns out that it's already enjoying a terrific success because the device is already out of stock at the company's online store in the United States.

Projected to ship on October 26, the Surface Book was available for buyers in the US in five different configurations, but they're all sold out right now. The only thing you can do is to get an email from Microsoft when a specific model becomes available, but otherwise, there's no other way to purchase the device from the company's own store.

Fortunately, there still are a few other means to get your hands on a Surface Book in late October even if Microsoft's device is sold out, including Amazon and some other retailers that will be selling the device.

Why the huge interest?

Before anything, there's one important thing that needs to be mentioned when talking about a device that is already out of stock. We don't know how many units Microsoft has actually produced for the United States, so it's pretty much impossible to tell how successful the device is without such figures.

But given the fact that it's already out of stock only one week after its public unveiling says a lot about customer interest, and this is probably what's more important for Microsoft.

The Surface Book, often referred to as the ultimate laptop, is a high-end device which comes with the latest in terms of hardware configuration, such as Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, up to 512 GB of storage space (a 1TB model will be added at a later time), and a maximum of 16 GB of RAM. An optional NVIDIA graphics card is also available for an extra fee.

Obviously, the Surface Book doesn't come cheap, so pricing in the United States starts at $1,499 (1,315 Euro) for the Intel Core i5 + 128GB + 8 GB version and goes all the way up to $2,699 (2,350 Euro) for the Intel Core i7 + 512 GB + 16 GB + NVIDIA graphics configuration.
