14 DAY TRIAL // The development team behind the Waha Linux distribution have announced earlier, May 7, 2016, the general availability of the Waha Linux 8.4 release, dubbed Hijra.
Waha Linux 8.4 "Hijra" is here after approximately eight months since the previous point release of the Debian-based distribution, Waha Linux 8.2, which was announced back in September 2015 based on the software repositories of the Debian GNU/Linux 8.2 (Jessie) operating system.
It appears that there was no Waha Linux 8.3 maintenance build released since then, so users of Waha Linux 8.2 need to upgrade directly to today's Waha Linux 8.4 release, which appears to bring all the goodies and latest Linux technologies from the Debian GNU/Linux 8.4 "Jessie" operating system.
"This update mainly adds corrections for security problems at the source level (Debian 8)," reads the announcement (only in Arabic). "We have only updated and adjusted several programs and settings, and corrected some of the errors that have been reported in the previous version."
Now shipping with Mozilla Firefox as default web browser
One of the key features of the Waha Linux 8.4 release is the adoption of the open-source and cross-platform Mozilla Firefox web browser, as a drop-in replacement for Iceweasel, thus following on the decision of the Debian GNU/Linux developers to switch from Iceweasel to Firefox as the default web browser for Debian.
Please note that this update does not constitute a new version of Waha Linux 8, it is just an updated ISO image for those who want to reinstall the OS or deploy it on a new computer. It contains only some updated packages that have been released upstream in the Debian GNU/Linux repositories since September 2015. Existing users need only to keep their installations up to date.
