14 DAY TRIAL // The w0rm hacking crew, operators of a forum of the same name, have attacked a rival gang, Monopoly, and are now offering the database of their rivals for sale on their forum.
Apparently, there's no off-limits policy among hacking groups, and everything can be swept under the "just doing business" rug.
w0rm has a history of high-profile hacks
w0rm, a hacking group famous for hacking BBC in 2013, Vice, CNET, and the Washington Post in 2014, are popular in h@ckZ0r circles for their forum, where the their crew and other hacking groups are selling databases of breached companies and zero-day exploits.
The same thing can be said of rival gang Monopoly, operators of a similar forum, but which focuses on selling user details to be used in online fraud, botnet, and spam-related products.
Now, as Motherboard is reporting, the w0rm hackers are proudly listing their rivals' database on their own forum, and to add insult to injury, they're only offering it for a meager price of $500 / €450 / 2.15 Bitcoin.
To be fair, the price is higher than what w0rm was asking one year ago for the databases of Vice and the Washington Post, both put up for sale for only 1 Bitcoin.
The two groups have no history together or any type of conflict
Digging around Twitter and some Dark Web sites, there doesn't seem to be any kind of rivalry or hatred between the two groups, so this move is more perfidious than we initially thought.
w0rm didn't provide any type of quarter for their hacking companions and hasn't used an apologetic tone when listing their counterparts' database.
The content of the Monopoly database is currently unknown. They might be only the forum's login credentials, or they might be the group's entire portfolio of exploit kits and botnet clients.
