The developer of the Voyager Linux distro was pleased to announce the release and immediate availability of Voyager 9, a Debian-based variant derived from the recently released Debian GNU/Linux 9 "Stretch" operating system.

Voyager 9 enter development at the end of February when the first Beta milestone arrived as an experimental build for those wanted to help the developer fix any annoyances of bugs. It's built around the latest Xfce 4.12 desktop environment and runs on top of a long-term supported Linux 4.9 kernel used by Debian GNU/Linux 9 "Stretch".

"The entire Voyager structure has been cleaned, scripts enhanced to accommodate the Xfce 4.12 environment and all its components," says the developer in the release notes (in French). "Voyager 9 is a version that aims to make available the latest Xfce improvements on Debian, for recent and old machines."

It's now possible to install Voyager almost automatically

Besides all of the updated components borrowed from the Debian Stretch repositories, Voyager 9 includes some new functionality as well. One of this is the implementation of a new script that makes it possible for users to install the GNU/Linux distribution on their personal computers almost automatically.

However, the developer does not recommend novice Linux users to install Voyager 9 on their computers but instead tackle with the live images first, and then try the automatic installer. Voyager 9 is designed to be fast, flexible, slick, and multi-platform, supporting 64-bit PCs with or without UEFI, and 32-bit PAE machines.

On the application side of things, Voyager 9 comes pre-installed with popular tools like LibreOffice, Mozilla Firefox, Kodi Media Center, VLC Media Player, GIMP, Plank, Conky, SMtube, Parole, Clementine, ClamAV, Pitivi, BleachBit, Deja-Dup, GNOME Encfs Manager, KeePassX, Gufw Firewall, Corebird, I-Nex, Cheese, and Terminator.

Voyager 9 is a highly customized Debian-based GNU/Linux distro that you'll love it, especially if you're a French-speaking user. You can download the Live ISO images right now from our website if you want to try out Voyager 9, and also check out other versions that are based on Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS. Voyager 9 is the second known distro to be based on Debian GNU/Linux 9 "Stretch", after SparkyLinux 4.6.
