VMware, a software company, known for some of the most acclaimed virtualization solutions on the market, announced the release of the VMware Workstation 12.0 and VMware Player 12.0 apps.

Prominent features of VMWare Workstation and Player 12.0 include support for new guest operating systems, such as Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet), Fedora 22, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.1, CentOS 7.1, Oracle Linux 7.1, as well as for the VMware Project Photon in-house built distribution.

Another interesting features of VMware Workstation 12.0 is full support for Microsoft's newly released Windows 10 operating system, as users will now be able to run Windows 10 as a virtual machine or as a host OS, as well as to migrate physical Windows 10 PCs to a virtual machine.

VMware also provides an automatic detection tool for Windows 10, helping users to install the operating system more easily. There's also support for Unity in Windows 10. Moreover, VMware Workstation 12.0 comes with DirectX 10 and OpenGL 3.3 support, and improved suspend and resume support for encrypted virtual machines.

vCloud Air integration has been improved

The vCloud Air integration has been improved in VMware Workstation 12.0, along with support for IPv6 NAT networks, 4K monitor support, multi-monitor support, USB 3.0 support for Windows 7 virtual machines, improved installer, NAT network configuration for Linux hosts, and better left-handed mouse settings for Windows hosts.

Users will also be able to drag and drop tabs out of the WMware Workstation Pro window and create a new Workstation window or attach it to an existing one, thanks to the tear away tabs support. Automatic suspend of virtual machines when the host is powered off is also present in this release, along with echo cancellation for video and voice calls using Skype and Microsoft Lync.
