Miley Cyrus was the (somewhat surprising) official host of the 2015 edition of MTV’s Video Music Awards, 2 years after she was heavily criticized for using the same awards gala to show off her twerking moves on Robin Thicke during a performance. The PTC was unsurprisingly shocked and disapproving.

The VMAs 2015 took place on Sunday night in LA, and despite the delay in the live broadcast, still included plenty of controversial moments. All of Miley’s outfits were very revealing, with some bordering on non-existent and she even managed to briefly flash one camera completely on purpose. She smoked and spoke of smoking pot a lot, she cussed and she made inappropriate jokes.

In other words, Miley acted exactly like MTV producers knew she would act when they hired her to host. So no wonder the Parents Television Council is outraged.

In a statement from the PTC (see below), President Tim Winter says MTV had an excellent chance to do something good with the gala, but they blew it by choosing someone for whom high-quality entertainment means encouraging the use of illegal drugs and sexualizing herself.

Perhaps worse for the PTC is the fact that the VMAs were deemed suitable for audiences older than 14, when “most parents of teens that age would find such a content rating preposterous.”

MTV continues to deliver “toxic” entertainment to youths all over the country and the world, and the PTC is convinced that stern talking by means of press statements will do the job in terms of making them understand it.
