Nicki was “livid” with the host for earlier interview

Nicki Minaj called out Miley Cyrus during her acceptance speech at the MTV VMAs 2015, and Us Weekly has learned that the rapper was so furious that producers actually feared something bad might happen if she and Miley crossed paths.

A couple of days before the awards show, Miley did an interview in which she dismissed Nicki’s claim that the industry was biased against black female entertainers as baseless. Nicki wasn’t being discriminated against, she was just selfish, angry, rude and unprofessional, Miley said.

So when Nicki won Best Hip Hop Video, at the end of her speech, she called out Miley for talking trash about her in the press. You can see her clap back in the first video below. The second one is of Miley’s reaction at being called out, which confirms that the exchange wasn’t staged.

It wasn’t, Us Weekly says too. In fact, when producers saw what was happening on stage and how “livid” Nicki was with the show’s host, they started worrying what might happen if they met backstage.

“The anger was very real and not a pre-planned bit at all,” a source close to the production says. “[Producers] had to be sure Nicki and Miley didn’t cross paths for the rest of the evening because they were legitimately worried about a confrontation happening.”

It’s a good thing Miley had backup. Australian drag queen Courtney Act, who was part of the backup dancing troupe she got up on stage for the first live performance of “Dooo It,” says in a new interview cited by the Daily Mail that the former Disney star was happy she was surrounded by drag queens backstage, just in case Nicki actually came for her.
