Nicki Minaj accepts award at the MTV VMAs 2015, calls out Miley Cyrus for dissing her in the media

Last week, Miley Cyrus gave an interview promoting his hosting gig at the MTV Video Music Awards 2015, which were last night in LA, and she probably never imagined some of the things she said would come back at her.

She obviously didn’t count on Nicki Minaj calling her out in her acceptance speech.

When she spoke to the NYT about the awards show, Miley put in her 2 cents on the spat Nicki got in with Taylor Swift over the nominations for Video of the Year. Nicki said her “Anaconda” video didn’t get a nod because of racism in the industry, and Taylor took that to mean that she had robbed her of her rightful place.

They eventually made up, but Miley still found it objectionable that Nicki would bring race into a conflict that she deemed stemming only out of Nicki’s ego. She also called her selfish, rude and “not nice at all,” and she said not being nominated was karma’s way of getting back at Nicki.

Obviously, Nicki didn’t appreciate that very much, so she called out Miley at the end of her acceptance speech: she won Best Hip Hop Video for “Anaconda.”

Miley’s response made it very clear that she didn’t see it coming, but also that Nicki was in earnest about it, that she wasn’t just joking around: she suddenly got defensive and tried to blame it on the NYT reporter for taking her comments out of context.

We’ll probably see in the next few days if Nicki bought it.
