Six years after he cut short Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards 2009, to declare that Beyonce should have won Video of the Year instead, and nearly ruining his career in the process, Kanye West was honored with the biggest distinction possible at the gala this year.

As announced last week, he was presented with the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, and even though he knew this would happen, he didn’t even prepare a speech beforehand.

The result was an over-protracted, rambling and ultimately confusing speech that was very much in keeping with everything that we’ve come to know about Kanye West.

You will find it in full below, both in video and in text, in case you think it might make more sense if it’s black on white. It doesn’t really.

Kanye proclaimed himself Yeezus by saying he’d die for an artist to have a voice after he or she sells records, he talked in great detail about the Taylor Swift incident and oscillated between contrition and genuine anger, and he saved his biggest surprise for last.

In 2020, as you can see in the video below, Kanye West has plans to run for President of the United States. He might have been joking about it, but then again, he might have been serious. After all, he did do the mic drop right at the end.
