Jean-Baptiste Kempf, VideoLAN's President, has stated in a blog post that the VLC app will be present in the Apple TV App Store and the development team has already merged code to the new tvOS repository.

VideoLAN's VLC multi-platform media player application is already available for multiple desktop and mobile operating systems, and it can be used to effortlessly play and stream a huge variety of both audio and video formats.

Furthermore, the new Apple TV will also allow its users to benefit from the Plex home media playback system, a simple way to enjoy multimedia content on a wide array of devices.

As Scott Olechowski, the co-founder of Plex declared, "We are very excited to have a crack at bringing our users Apple TV. It’s been a long requested platform and we’re excited to work on it. We want it, our users want it."

Moreover, to further confirm Plex's determination to provide their users with a tvOS app, he has also stated that "There is no question we will be able to offer Plex on the platform. There are multiple ways to go about it, based on the tvOS SDK we now have access to."

Having the two apps available on the new Apple TV will make it even easier to enjoy video and audio content on Apple's new device especially when combining their capabilities with the improved Siri personal assistant for the tvOS platform.

As a bonus, while using Plex or VLC on their Apple TV 4, users will only have to tell Siri when they need to pause a movie or when they want it to switch to another music album.

The new Apple TV will be available in 32 GB and 64 GB models, for a price of $149 and $199, respectively, via Apple's retail stores and from authorized resellers at the end of October 2015.
