14 DAY TRIAL // VideoLAN Media Player, or simply VLC, a software designed to run all kinds of media files, ranging from simple DVDs to video and audio files, has been upgraded to version 2.2.2 and is now ready for testing.
We haven't seen as many VLC updates as we would like. In fact, the last major update for VLC was released back in April 2015, which means that almost a full year has passed without any significant change. That will change with the release of VLC 2.2.2.
It doesn't sound like much, and we would normally say that it's just a maintenance version, but with so many changes and improvements, it's not possible to do that. Developers have been piling on modifications and it's a mystery why they don't give this upcoming launch a new version number that's more encompassing.
What's new in VLC 2.2.2
Since this is still in development, some of the features and changes listed here might not land in the stable version, or other modifications that are not listed here will likely be added.
According to the changelog, the SetupFormat for continuous framesize in v4l2 has been fixed, the screen recording aspect-ratio has been repaired, support has been added for ms-dvr files, time detection in AVI files over HTTP is now possible, MXF no longer crashes on stop, the GoToMeeting 2 and GoToMeeting 3 codecs are now supported, the PNG encoding time has been improved, and the addons manager dialog and playlist have been refined.
