Vivaldi's Ruarí Ødegaard is informing Softpedia today about the availability of the second development snapshot of the upcoming Vivaldi 1.8 web browser release, versioned 1.8.770.9.

According to Ruarí Ødegaard, Vivaldi Snapshot 1.8.770.9 appears to be "historic" because it rewrites the history feature of the Chromium-based web browser, but it also addresses approximately 40 bugs that have been reported by users since the previous snapshot or even from the current Vivaldi 1.7 stable release. It also upgrades the Chromium backend to version 57.0.2987.

"The highlight for today’s snapshot is our fresh take on the browser history feature," said Ruarí Ødegaard. "We wanted to also cater for those cases where you can’t quite remember enough details to efficiently search, where you want to explore your data to uncover some previous gems or perhaps when you just want to better understand your browsing habits and behavior."

Users can view daily, weekly, and monthly history overviews

As you can see from the screenshot attached at the end of the article, the new history feature will allow users to view daily, weekly, and monthly overviews of their browsing history, besides the ability to search and scan through the now standard list view that many of today's modern web browsers offer. Additionally, it's now possible to navigate backward or forward in the day, week or month views.

Vivaldi Snapshot 1.8.770.9 also implements a new button to allow users of the powerful web browser to go back to the current, day, week or month with a single click. Continuing, there are now a lot of graphical clues displayed about your browsing habits, including a graph that lets you view your browsing activity over a specific period, a list of the top domains you visited, and much more.

On top of that, a handy option will allow you to delete specific types of history data based on ranges, as well as individual items or selections. And just in case you're wondering, no, Vivaldi will not collect your history data, as everything is happening locally on your personal computer. The full changelog is attached below and you can download Vivaldi Snapshot 1.8.770.9 for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Microsoft Windows.
