The Vivaldi devs have kicked off the new year with the third development snapshot of the upcoming Chromium-based Vivaldi 1.7 web browser release, as Ruarí Ødegaard informed us earlier.

Vivaldi Snapshot 1.7.715.3 comes approximately two weeks after the release of build 1.7.705.3, and while at first it appears to be a small bugfix update that addresses several of the issues reported by users lately, it implements a new feature, namely an option that lets you enjoy a clean Vivaldi interface by hiding all the installed extensions.

"Vivaldi provides a lot of options, nonetheless many of you supplement it with extensions. If you find that the extension buttons are eating up too much real estate on the screen or provide too much of a visual distraction, you can now toggle them on and off as you need," said Ruarí Ødegaard, Linux QA and Testing at Vivaldi.

Vivaldi 1.5 and later versions can now be installed on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

The new option for toggling the visibility of the extension can be found under Settings -> Address bar -> Extensions -> Show Extensions Visibility Toggle. Among the bugs fixed in Vivaldi Snapshot 1.7.715.3, we can mention a regression that should allow the installation of Vivaldi 1.5 or later versions on the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS operating system.

The recently implemented screenshot tool, which could be the biggest new feature of the upcoming Vivaldi 1.7 release, has received a bunch of improvements, too. The full changelog is attached at the end of the article for your reading pleasure, and you can test drive the new snapshot right now on your favorite operating system.

Download Vivaldi Snapshot 1.7.715.3 for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Microsoft Windows operating systems directly from our website if you want to take it for a quick test drive to discover the new changes. However, we have to warn you that this is an early development release that shouldn't be used as your daily driver. Get the latest Vivaldi 1.6 version for that!
