We've been informed earlier by Vivaldi's Ruarí Ødegaard about the availability of a second Release Candidate towards the upcoming major Vivaldi 1.5 release of the free and cross-platform web browser based on Chromium.

Vivaldi Snapshot 1.5.658.27 is out today, dubbed as RC2 build, to address the last remaining bugs before Vivaldi 1.5 gets promoted to the stable channel next week. The most important one is a nasty bug that would not permit dragging or moving of tabs between windows using the context menu to work properly.

In other words, Vivaldi should no longer crash when you attempt to move the last tab back to the original window. In the same manner, the WebView contents should now be displayed when attempting to move the last tab between windows. These two regressions have now been fixed in Vivaldi Snapshot 1.5.658.27.

"We are issuing a new 1.5 release candidate, after fixing a couple of serious issues with moving (via the context menu) or dropping tabs between windows. We have also updated various translations," wrote Ruarí Ødegaard, Linux QA and testing for Vivaldi. "This build will receive updates from the snapshot autoupdate stream."

Vivaldi 1.5 will sport a bunch of exciting new features

Apart from the two tab regressions mentioned above, Vivaldi Snapshot 1.5.658.27 renames the "New Contact" context menu item in the Notes feature to "New Note" and updates various language translations. You can download Vivaldi Snapshot 1.5.658.27 for GNU/Linux, as well as macOS and Microsoft Windows.

Please note that this is still a pre-release version, and it might crash if bugs are still present, but it's recommended to report them as soon as possible before Vivaldi 1.5 hits the streets. There will be a bunch of exciting new features coming to the Vivaldi web browser, and you can rest assured that you'll be the first to read about them next week.

In related news, the Vivaldi web browser has landed in the unstable channel of the Solus Linux-based operating system, as you can see from the tweet attached below. Users will be able to install Vivaldi in Solus using Software Center, just like any other application, in the coming hours. We will update the story when Vivaldi lands in stable!
