Vivaldi Technologies announced today the release and general availability of the Vivaldi 1.14 web browser, which introduces several new features, optimizations, and bug fixes.

Vivaldi 1.14 not only celebrates the project's third anniversary, but it becomes world's first web browser to introduce a vertical reader mode, which will benefit users of Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Japanese, and Korean languages. They can use the new vertical mode to more comfortably view and read texts in their languages in a distraction-free reader mode.

"The needs of our users come first, no matter where they live or what language they read, write or speak. The vertical reader mode gives them more flexibility to access content on the Web on their terms," says Jon von Tetzchner. "We are confident that with this unique feature, users of the East Asian languages all across the globe will have yet another reason to choose Vivaldi."

Markdown support for Notes, rearrangeable Web Panels

Apart from the new vertical reader mode, Vivalvi 1.14 introduces Markdown support for the Notes note-taking feature, allowing users to add markdown formatting like bolding, headers, and bulleted lists to their notes, as well as to preview simple HTML code. Moreover, there's now support for reorganizing and customizing the position of the Web Panels in browser's sidebar.

To make their browsing experience even more convenient and interactive, Vivalvi 1.14 users can now prioritize their choice of web pages on the fly and rearrange their search engines thanks to a new list layout that uses drag & drop. Vivaldi 1.14 is now available for download on GNU/Linux, macOS, and Microsoft Windows operating systems, and it's based on the latest Chromium 64 open-source web browser.
