14 DAY TRIAL // Vivaldi's Ruarí Ødegaard is back and he's sharing with us today the latest innovations that are coming to Vivaldi 1.13, the next major release of the Chromium-based web browser.
Based on Chromium 62.0.3202.63, Vivaldi Snapshot 1.13.997.3 is now available for testing on all supported platforms (see download links below), and it promises to introduce new features like a Window Panel to make the life of Vivladi users who use dozens of tabs per session, and a download close dialog.
"A very frequent request since the start of the Vivaldi journey has been a Windows panel," said Ruarí Ødegaard, QA and Testing at Vivaldi. "The point of this panel is to make life easier for those of you working with many tabs. It makes it simple to sort, search (through titles) and manage multiple tabs at once."
Designed to work only per window, the new Window Panel feature will be improved in a future release of the Vivaldi web browser with more functionality, depending on users' requests. Vivaldi promises to allow users to do complicated tasks with a single drag-and-drop once Window Panel is multi-window capable.
File downloading improvements, window handling code rewrite
The second biggest feature of Vivaldi Snapshot 1.13.997.3 is the implementation of a warning dialog in the Downloads panel to notify users when they attempt to close the web browser before a download is complete. In addition, the file downloading process was greatly improved in this release.
It also looks like Vivaldi 1.13 will bring better support for Microsoft's Windows 7 and Apple's macOS High Sierra 10.13 operating systems, along with the rewrite of the window handling code to make Vivaldi even faster and more reliable than before. In the meantime, you can download Vivaldi Snapshot 1.13.997.3 for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Windows 64-bit or 32-bit computers right now from our web portal, but please be aware that this is a pre-release build and it contains known issues noted in the release announcement. Autoupdate was disabled for this version, too.
