Vivaldi Technologies announced on Wednesday the release and immediate availability for download of the Vivaldi 1.13 web browser, a new stable release that introduces more new features and dozens of improvements.

Work on Vivaldi 1.13 started two months ago, on September 21, 2017, and since then the web browser received no less than eleven snapshots that brought all the goodies listed at a glance in the next paragraphs. This release is built on top of the latest Chromium 62 open-source web browser and it's the first of many to come to rely more on built-in functionality than add-ons.

Highlights of Vivaldi 1.13 include a new window panel that promises to give users more control over their tabs and helps them manage multiple tabs at once more easily. As you can see in the video attached below, the window panel opens a tree-style view of your tabs on the side of the browser's window, but for now it only works per window.

"Vivaldi offers more built-in options for managing tabs than any other modern browser. Users can choose where they want to position the tabs; they can navigate to them via their keyboard; group them and so on. The new Window Panel takes tab management to the next level," says Jon von Tetzchner, CEO at Vivaldi Technologies.

With the new window panel, users can get an overview of all open tabs, reorder tabs by dragging them to a new position in the list, mute noisy tabs, group tabs by topic, pin tabs, hibernate tabs or tab stacks they don't use for an extra layer of performance, as well as to tile tab stacks to compare multiple web pages side by side. More functionality will be added in future Vivaldi releases.

Better downloads, window handling code rewrite

Based on community feedback, Vivaldi 1.13 introduces several improvements to how downloads are handled by the web browser. This automatically translated to better file downloading as users are now able to pause and resume downloads, view the download speed in the download progress bar, and get notified when they attempt to close the web browser before all current downloads are complete.

Vivaldi 1.13 should also work better on older hardware as the team managed to rewrite the window handling code. All in all, Vivaldi 1.13 is an enhancement update that all users should install on their systems, and you can download the binaries for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Microsoft Windows operating systems right now from our web portal or the official website.
