The web browser launched today for Linux, Mac, and Windows

Vivaldi Technologies are launching today Vivaldi 1.10, a new major update to the free and cross-platform web browser designed for power users, on GNU/Linux, macOS, and Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Vivaldi is already known as one of the most customizable web browsers for power users, but the 1.10 update debuts today with an extra layer of options that let you make browsing more personal than ever before. The biggest change being the ability to personalize the look and feel of the Start Page to your liking.

"Start Page is a gateway to the web. Why should people be restricted to plain startup pages with limited functionality and boring design?" says Jon von Tetzchner, CEO at Vivaldi Technologies. "We thought it was about time to give people a browser that takes Start Pages seriously."

As fewer web browsers offer a powerful level of customization to Start Pages (a.k.a. Speed Dials), Vivaldi 1.10 gives users the power decide how many columns of thumbnails they want to display, turn off the maximum number of supported thumbnails, or add their desktop wallpaper as a background image (only on Windows).

On top of that, it's now possible to replace the automatically generated thumbnails of your most visited web pages, even use animated GIFs. Vivaldi 1.10's Start Page is more than a Speed Dial, as it lets users add multiple Speed Dials to a single Start Page, which can be used to collect and organize links to their most used websites.

Docked Developer Tools, sorting of downloads, and more

A long-requested feature is finally coming to Vivaldi with version 1.10, namely the ability to dock the Developer Tools at the bottom of the window or on either the left or right side instead of opening them in a separate window. "We have a lot of developers using Vivaldi, and they have spoken. Being able to dock tools in the same browser window is a must-have," says Jon von Tetzchner.

But that's not all, because Vivaldi 1.10 also launches today with new sorting options for downloads, including by date added, date finished, size, and name, the ability to toggle the visibility of images on web pages, more improvements to Quick Commands, support for controlling new tabs through third-party add-ons, and support for address bar's drop-down list to exclude bookmarks and typed history.
