First Vivaldi 1.10 Snapshot hits the streets

Vivaldi's Ruarí Ødegaard just informed us a few moments ago that Vivaldi 1.10 would be the next major version of the free and cross-platform web browser based on the latest Chromium technologies, not Vivaldi 2.0 as many of you have hoped.

Vivaldi 1.9 just hit the streets the other day as the world's first web browser to ship with the Ecosia search engine enabled by default to help reforest the planet, and it now looks like Vivaldi's devs never sleep, and development of Vivaldi 1.10 starts today with the first snapshot, Vivaldi 1.10.829.3, which introduces a long-anticipated feature: Docked Developer Tools!

"We have had a long-standing request for the ability to dock Developer Tools. Well, wait no longer, we are introducing this handy feature in our very first 1.10 snapshot. All of you developers who desperately wanted this, can now breathe a sigh of relief. Of course, if you prefer them undocked, that still works too," said Ruarí Ødegaard, Linux QA and Testing at Vivaldi.

Better thumbnails for Speed Dial folders, many improvements

Another long-standing request is the appearance of Speed Dial folders in Vivaldi, and today's first snapshot of Vivaldi 1.10 improves them to no longer display the same icon, giving users a preview of the contents of these folders. As expected, this also makes it a bit easier for Vivaldi users to more quickly select the right folder.

There's also a new setting that lets users focus the webview on a new tab, Speed Dial will no longer crash when trying to drag its bookmarks, the Yandex search engine was renamed to Яндекс, MSE (Media Source Extensions) handling was enabled for MP3 playback, and it's again possible to set vivaldi://startpage as your homepage.

Several regressions and annoyances reported by users from the Vivaldi 1.9 stable series have now been fixed in the Vivaldi 1.10.829.3 snapshot, and we recommend studying the full changelog attached below if you're curious to know what exactly was changed in this development release, which remains based on Chromium 58.

You can download the binaries of Vivaldi 1.10.829.3 Snapshot for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Microsoft Windows operating systems right now from our website, but please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, not to be used for any production work. Don't forget to report any issues you might encounter during testing!
