14 DAY TRIAL // Vivaldi's Ruarí Ødegaard has had the pleasure of informing us about the availability of the first and most probably the last Release Candidate build of the upcoming Vivaldi 1.1 web browser.
We reported earlier this week that the first point release of Vivaldi 1.0, the current stable branch of the proprietary web browser, was coming soon rebased on the Chromium 50 open-source project, bringing much-needed improvements and bug fixes. And now users can already test the RC1 release.
"Today's snapshot is the first release candidate for Vivaldi version 1.1. Even if no further major issues are found, Vivaldi will be rebuilt for the stable update stream before it is released," said Ruarí Ødegaard, Linux QA and Testing, Vivaldi, in the official release announcement.
There was another snapshot, build 1.1.453.30, for the upcoming Vivaldi 1.1 update released the other day, which brought in a fix for an issue with Ctrl clicking on Speed Dials, another fix, this time for an issue with the URL autocomplete functionality, and fast forward improvements.
What's new in Vivaldi 1.1 RC1
The first Release Candidate (RC) build of Vivaldi 1.1 brings a patch for a possible crash under 32-bit GNU/Linux operating systems, along with support for playing HTML5 proprietary media under Ubuntu Linux using the chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra 49.0.2623.X package from the main repositories.
A regression with the "Find in Page" functionality that made the tabs unresponsive has been fixed, it is now possible to create a new bookmarks folder, and there are a few other small fixes, so please check the changelog for snapshot 1.1.453.36 for more details.
