Today, August 17, 2016, Oracle has released a new maintenance update for the latest VirtualBox 5.1 branch, version 5.1.4, bringing numerous improvements and fixing annoying issues.

VirtualBox 5.1.4 is now the most advanced version of the open-source and cross-platform virtualization software. It's the second maintenance release in the series, coming three weeks after VirtualBox 5.1.2 to add various enhancements to Linux Additions, such as support for Linux kernel 4.7 or later to the built-in video driver.

Talking about the video driver implemented in the Linux Additions, users should also be aware of the fact that, starting with VirtualBox 5.1.4, it will also work on 32-bit guests that have graphics cards with large video memory sizes. Moreover, it looks like there's now a workaround for the X.Org Server bug that caused the screen refresh not to function.

Also for Linux users, Oracle patched various scripting issues in the installer, along with a path issue that apparently affected various GNU/Linux distributions. Moreover, the bug report about corrupted mouse pointers with certain Linux and Solaris guests was resolved for Windows hosts in the VirtualBox 5.1.4 release.

Windows 10, Windows 2000, and Mac OS X improvements

Among other noteworthy changes implemented in the VirtualBox 5.1.4 maintenance update, we can mention that speakers support was re-enabled for Mac OS X guests, the VBoxTray problems reported by users on the Windows 2000 operating system were addressed, and the auto-resizing feature should now work well for Windows 10 guests.

There's also better NVMe support, it's possible to clone images with the "VBoxManage clonehd" command again, and various other issues reported by users since VirtualBox 5.1.2 were resolved. You can now download VirtualBox 5.1.4 for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems right now via our website, and don't hesitate to study the attached changelog for additional details on the new improvements.
