Twitter announced back in October that it would kill Vine, its video sharing service that was launched on mobiles about 3 years ago. The service, along with the mobile app, will be discontinued, Twitter said several weeks ago.

However, the Vine website is to be saved and remain live, so users can still access and download their Vines even after the mobile application would be discontinued.

At that time, Twitter wasn't clear what would really happen with the service and whether or not the company would replace it with another downgraded service sometime in the future.

Well, it appears that something has come up and Twitter has decided to save Vine in a way. It appears that the Vine app will be replaced by a new application called Vine Camera.

The process will start sometime in January, but we're expecting more information about the Vine Camera in the coming days. Here is an excerpt from Twitter's official statement:

Here’s what’s coming: in January, we’re transitioning the Vine app to a pared-down Vine Camera. With this camera app you’ll still be able to make six-second looping videos, and either post them directly to Twitter or save them to your phone.”

So, while some of Vine's features will be included in the upcoming Vine Camera app, we have no idea what exactly won't make the cut.

Twitter also emphasized the fact that, in the coming days, it will roll out a way to make it easier for Vine users to follow their favorite accounts on Twitter. Obviously, you can continue to download your Vines through the application or the website until further notice.

Even after the mobile app, all Vines will continue to be accessible via the vine.co website, as mentioned earlier. So, that's it folks, Vine looping videos will still be a thing in 2017.
