The “Fast & Furious” star, like you’ve never seen him before

Vin Diesel is supposed to start shooting “XXX: The Return of Xander Cage” soon but he’s no longer in the same excellent shape he was when he did the 2002 original. In fact, he’s not even in the same shape as he was when he shot “Furious 7,” his most recent film.

Apparently, like all guys and girls, Vin Diesel too is prone to a little thing known as “aging.” The 48-year-old star, always known for his ripped figure and his love of insane action movies, has been photographed looking heavier and older in Miami.

The Internet might never recover from the shock.

Vin Diesel is only human, after all

Again, had this happened to someone who did not make bank on his muscles, it would have been less of a shock, obviously. But this is Vin Diesel we’re talking about, a decent actor who makes for an excellent action movie star and whose insane figure has been driving ladies wild since he first popped up on the scene in 2000 in the TV movie “The Chronicles of Riddick: Into Pitch Black.”

A photo like the first one in the gallery below was bound to make waves. This is how Vin Diesel looks when he’s not in top shape for a movie, hanging out on the balcony in his hotel room in Miami, enjoying a smoke.

Not only is he not sporting the usual six-pack and bulging muscles, but he’s actually developed a paunch. He’s also showing his age, but that’s probably because he’s tired: he’s been promoting “The Last Witch Hunter,” which comes out on October 23.

Hollywood is selling illusions

If you compare Vin’s most recent photo with an older (but still recent) one, like the third one in the gallery, you will understand why all this brouhaha surrounding his weight gain. As for whether it’s something the world should freak out about the way it did, both on social media and in the blogosphere, that’s debatable.

Chances are it shouldn’t be, because we all know that Hollywood is in the trade of selling illusions. As discussed in an editorial on how every movie star must have the body of an action movie star now, you can’t expect to become an A-list actor and not get in enviable shape for a project.

It seems that the same goes for Vin Diesel: when he’s working, he looks like we assumed he does all the time. When he’s not, he relaxes a bit, which apparently means getting a bigger belly.

The same goes for the ladies: they’re in their best shape for awards season and whenever their role requires it, but they can “afford” to not stick to that strict diet the rest of the time.

It really shouldn’t be that big a deal.
