Apple’s iPhones come in various display sizes, colors and configurations, and while Apple does have a policy in place that somewhat prohibits consumers from swapping components and making changes to their iPhones. But the creator of YouTube channel Strange Parts seems to have accomplished the impossible.

Scotty Allen managed to build an iPhone 6s with 16GB of internal memory using spare parts that he bought from the public cell phone parts markets in Shenzhen, China. It actually took months to create the smartphone, but the result is truly impressive.

Because the development process was so long, the video was filmed in chunks, which makes us have some doubts regarding its authenticity. However, the market in Shenzhen, China, would be the best place to find all of the parts that you would need in order to build your own phone.

It took several months to build the smartphone

The video shows Allen buying parts for the iPhone, as well as tools for building the phone and stitching all the parts together. Further along the way, the video reveals the LED screen with Force Touch technology baked in the middle, the LED flash, buttons and other components.

On the outside, the smartphone in the video looks exactly like Apple’s iPhone 6s in the Rose Gold color option, revealing the Touch ID button on the front and several side buttons for volume control and the home button. Software-wise, the phone seems to run smoothly and respond to commands, just like a brand new iPhone 6s sold by Apple.                                                                              It took Scotty Allen 4 months to build the phone, which is quite a long time. We presume it was actually cheaper to build his own smartphone with spare parts from Chinese third-party shops than to buy the iPhone directly from Apple. Scotty Allen talks about himself as a smartphone newbie and reveals that virtually anyone can build their own iPhone provided that they have spare parts and the time to do so.
